On this day in 1959, Jack Brabham won the World Championship by pushing his car across the finish line at Sebring.
Many drivers have won the Formula One world championship in dramatic fashion. Kimi Raikkonen did it in the final race, Lewis Hamilton did it on the final corner and Jack Brabham did it by pushing his car across the line.
At the US Grand Prix at Sebring in 1959, Brabham only need to finish the race to become champion but when he ran out of fuel on the final lap, he had to push his car across the line to fourth place.
It would be the first of the Australian’s three world titles.
