Although the Mercedes boss appreciates the improved safety, he really doesn't like the way it looks on the car
Although the Halo is a vital piece of safety equipment, you won’t find many people who like the way the thing looks. Still, you’d expect those involved in the sport to at least try and be a bit diplomatic about it, but not Toto Wolff. Speaking at the Mercedes launch he made no effort to sit on the fence at all:
“I’m not impressed with the whole thing and if you give me a chainsaw I would take it off. We need to look after driver safety but what we have implemented is aesthetically not appealing. We need to tackle that and come up with something that looks better.”
The FIA is well aware that people hate the Halo and is making an effort behind the scenes to try and improve the looks of it in the future. Meanwhile, IndyCar has come up with arguably a much more attractive windscreen solution, although whether that will work well enough to eventually transfer to F1 is another matter.
