The V8 Utes are about as Australian as motorsport gets and is a wildly popular series, thank to the aggressive racing and reverse grids which provide plenty of action. Because the series supports the V8 Supercars championship that means they get to race on quite a few street circuits, and that can tend to lead to accidents.
The recent round at Surfer’s Paradise supporting the Gold Coast 600 was no exception, as this massive seven car pile up totally blocked the track, bringing out the red flag. It was a destructive weekend for the championship in general with only seven cars out of the 19-strong field escaping without serious damage. With a rule change in effect for 2017 and only one more round for this generation of Ute, it could be a thin field at the season finale in Sydney!
The best bit is how the Ute that caused it is sponsored by ‘Slideways’. You couldn’t make this stuff up.
