Max Verstappen fought off strong competition from Max Verstappen to win the award for ‘Best overtake of 2016’.
In the last couple of years F1 has been much more active on social media, but they showed their naivety when they launched a vote on Twitter to find out what the best overtake of 2016 was. With passes from Verstappen in both halves of the ‘draw’, the final was only going to end up one way.
Verstappen’s pass on Rosberg at Interlagos was the unsurprising winner, beating the other pass he put on Rosberg at Silverstone. I don’t know what they expected to happen – Verstappen is not only massively popular, but the same pass won the FIA’s ‘Action of the Year’ award, which was also a public vote.
AND THE WINNER IS… 👀

There were some other great passes in the shortlist – Ricciardo’s lunge on Bottas at Monza was epic – but with not one but TWO Verstappen options in the vote, they never really stood a chance.
