Villeneuve Says “Embarrassing” Kvyat Should Be Dropped By Toro Rosso

It’s fair to say Daniil Kvyat’s British Grand Prix was, pretty much, a disaster after a shunt with his team-mate Carlos Sainz Jr. on the opening lap.

The Russian driver went side-by-side with the second Toro Rosso through Maggots and Becketts, but ran wide, lost the rear and clashed into Sainz – taking him out of the race.

Kvyat continued with damage and a drive-through penalty, but said afterwards Sainz should have cooperated with him better and feels the stewards are singling him out.

Well, former F1 driver Villeneuve has a lot to say about Kvyat, feeling he should be dropped – even if it’s just temporarily – from his Toro Rosso race seat. He told Motorsport.com:

“I’m not sure what Kvyat is trying to do. Do you know what the worst aspect of it is? He then comes on the radio trying to put the blame on his teammate, thinking no one has seen it.

“That shows a bad attitude. He deserves to stay home. It has become embarrassing. He got sideways when he got back in the next corner and if Sainz had not been there, he would have gone off anyway.

“He should be left home for a bit so he can think about it because it’s not the first weekend he’s been a bit over the top. Maybe F1 is too fast for him, I don’t know.”

Ouch, some pretty strong words from Villeneuve – unsurprisingly. The Canadian added Kvyat had “plenty of chances” and needs to take some responsibility, otherwise he’ll “never learn”.
