Junior single seater categories aren’t known for their clean battles and top-class racing. But they provide great entertainment all the same.
The Euroformula Open Championship was at Monza this weekend and the second race featured this brilliantly dramatic fight for victory between Leonardo Pulcini and Ferdinand Habsburg.
They swapped places several times on the final two laps, with the fight including off-track excursions, corner cutting, weaving and wheel-to-wheel contact.
It all boiled down to the final corner, with Pulcini making a stunning move around the outside to snatch first place at the last moment.
Habsburg’s desperate attempt to claw back the position saw him run wide onto the Parabolica run-off area, with a dab of opposite lock and the dirty tarmac almost seeing him lose second place to Nikita Troitskiy, who was waiting in the wings.
