Aside from his one-off race at Monaco Button has been fairly quiet in 2017 – and after spending 17 seasons in F1 who can blame him for wanting some time off!
He’ll be back in action at the end of August though as he’s taking part in the Suzuka 1000km. It’s the main event of the Super GT season as teams and drivers tackle 173 laps of the legendary circuit in a race lasting the best part of six hours.
Button has already been preparing for the event and in this video talks about his first impressions of the championship and what he hopes he can offer his team.
Jenson is no stranger to being in Japan or winning at Suzuka, but this is the one Super GT race that everybody is out for glory in. Not just because it’s a big race, but also because it’s the last ever Suzuka 1000km. Yup, the event that began in 1966 will be no more in 2018 as it morphs into a 10 hour race for GT3 cars.
Honda has struggled in Super GT in recent years but an NSX won the most recent round in Fuji and being such a long race, of course anything can happen.
Button will be sharing the car with regular season drivers Hideki Mutoh and Daisuke Nakajima. I hope they remember to check the seat when he gets out of the car…
