A couple of weeks ago Laguna Seca played host to the annual Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion event. As well as historic racing, the event also sees the odd high-speed demonstration – and the combination of Mika Hakkinen in a McLaren F1 GTR is hard to beat.
Hakkinen drove some laps in the car that famously won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995, beating the faster prototypes. These days it usually lives in the McLaren Technology Centre, but hearing Hakkinen bounce that wonderful BMW V12 off the rev limiter is definitely a much better use for it. What makes it even better are the onboard cameras added to the car by Racer, which means we get to enjoy watching Mika work his magic.
