You rarely expect to see incidents on the formation lap, but these two MRF Challenge Formula 1600 drivers suffered spins before the race had even began.
Spinning off track on the formation lap isn’t the best way to start a race, but that’s what happened during race two of the MRF Challenge Formula 1600’s visit to the Buddh International Circuit.
What made the incidents even more unusual was that it was the front two on the grid who spun off at the former Formula 1 track.
The races took place at the end of January, with Alex Bora being the first to spin off while trying to warm up his tyres on the formation lap.
He lost control of his car on the run to Turn 1, and then Nayan Chatterjee – who had taken over at the front – spun off on the back straight, just before the BIC’s now infamous ‘jump’.
Chatterjee ended up winning the race, after both drivers returned to their original grid slots, with Bora finishing fifth.
