Because he wasn’t quite legendary enough, today Alex Zanardi won his third Paralympic gold medal almost 15 years to the day since his horrific CART crash that almost killed him.
The Italian had both his legs amputated above the knee in a crash at the American Memorial race at EuroSpeedway Lausitz that occurred 15 years ago tomorrow.
Since his accident he’s found a new career in hand-cycling. Zanardi won the H4 time trial and road race at London 2012 and today won the H5 class time trial with a time of 28 minutes and 36.81 seconds to grab his third Paralympic gold.
Isn’t about the 144 digits, simply that’s impossible to describe some kind of feelings

On Friday, the 49-year-old will compete in his second and final event on Friday in the three-man H2-H5 team mixed relay for Italy.
