In his own statement, Zhou added: “It’s been an absolutely crazy year but I’m proud of everything we have achieved as a team so far! Let’s keep working to reach more milestones together.”
As F1’s first-ever Chinese driver, Zhou has performed well in his rookie campaign, scoring points in Bahrain, Canada and Italy.
He had a slight blip at Silverstone when an unavoidable collision at the start meant his Alfa Romeo somersaulted into a barrier!
Thankfully, Zhou was unharmed and jumped back in the car for the Austrian GP seven days later.
Frédéric Vasseur, Alfa Romeo’s Team Principal, added: “I am looking forward to continuing working with Zhou. From day one with the team, at the Abu Dhabi test last year, he has impressed me with his approach to work and this is always a very positive trait.
“We knew he was quick, but the way he adapted to Formula One in such a short time has been one of the best surprises of our season.”
Well deserved Zhou! We can’t wait to see how Alfa get on in 2023!
